A time of transition with summer visitors starting to leave as our winter visitors arrive. Weather systems play their part on what can be seen and Easterly and Northerly winds create excitement. Time and trips are difficult to plan but our location makes us a hotspot for migrants and rarities to make landfall. Previous trips have found migrating Ospreys calling in on their way to Africa for the winter. Many sites are used as staging posts for migrating waders so we can often see 15 species in a day at our top sites. The season creates many opportunities to learn identification skills as most birds moult into their winter plumage.
